Join the EcoBlock team on September 14, 2021 from 12:30-1:15 pm at the 2021 American Planning Association (APA) California Virtual Conference for a discussion on the Oakland EcoBlock: A Community-Driven Model to Develop Advanced Energy Communities.

Speakers:

  • Therese Peffer – EcoBlock Project Manager; Associate Director, California Institute for Energy and Environment (CIEE), CITRIS & the Banatao Institute, UC Berkeley
  • Christine Scott Thomson – Senior Associate/Urban Planner, Page Southerland Page
  • Cathy Leonard – Executive Director, Oakland Neighborhoods for Equity

The Oakland EcoBlock will create an advanced energy community model that equitably and radically reduces carbon emissions and allows communities to undertake collaborative action that builds community and improves resilience. The project is conducting energy and water efficiency retrofits in existing homes and small businesses, switching appliances to electric, and coupling energy efficiency with a renewable energy microgrid while researching how fundamental shifts in social, legal, business, and financial constructs can facilitate this work. The EcoBlock will leverage economies of scale at the block level, improving multiple homes at a time to unlock new climate solutions.

Registration is required for this event. Please visit the 2021 APA California Virtual Conference website for more information.
